Year 1 - 1998
1998 was a hot and dry summer. We started the project early.
On Memorial Day we ordered a full load of landscaping timbers (72) at a super hardware center. From those timbers a pond was born, and a garden grew.
What a good excuse to buy a chain saw and 1/2" drill. How else were we going to assemble the 14 ft by 4 foot pond out of timbers?
The pond is now sitting where the dog pen was. The dog pen was moved to the back and is being used as a lockable storage area for tools and the lawn mower.
This is looking towards the house. The first year we put in water iris, lilies, hyacinths, and lettuce. We will never have water lettuce again.
With the leftover timbers, we built a small raised bed flower garden. That was a mistake.  Raised beds are like rabbits. Once you have two, the quantities get bigger.
This is looking towards the northeast. There is some improvement, and the water is nice, but the yard is still lacking some things. What will next year bring?
